Professor David Maguire

Professor David Maguire is the Vice-Chancellor and President of the University of East Anglia. Prior to this he held a number of interim HE leadership roles including as Principal at the Dyson Institute of Engineering and Technology, Vice-Chancellor at the University of Sussex and Principal at the University of Dundee.

He was Vice-Chancellor at the University of Greenwich between 2011 and 2019. He has also worked in the universities of Birmingham City, Lancaster, Leicester, Plymouth and Redlands (California). Educated at the University of Bristol and the University of Exeter, David has worked extensively in the field of computer mapping and geographic information systems.

Before returning to academia, he spent 20 years working in the IT industry as Chief Scientist and Director of Products for a global computer software and services company, Esri.

He has held many significant roles in HE including as a board member of Universities UK, Chair of Jisc, Chair of Greenwich Maritime World Heritage Site Board, Vice-Chair of London Higher, Vice-Chair of University Alliance and member of the Higher Education Policy Institute (HEPI) advisory board.

He was chair of the board and lead author of the UK national Learning and Teaching Reimagined review into the digital response of universities to Covid. He has published over 100 academic and technical papers and six books.

His current academic interests include geographic information science, digital innovation in universities and higher education policy and practice.
